Week 3: Self-love, compassion & forgiveness

Almost half way through the 7 week journey to a better me and I feel more and more that I’m following my bliss. Throughout this week the emerging theme from interactions with others and oneself while meditating has been forgiveness, for myself and others. Not for a reason but just so that we can let go of what doesn’t serve us on our journey, and enable us to move forward.

I’ve realised how important it is to understand that “life doesn’t happen to us, and that it happens for us” (J. Carrey). Feeling and experiencing things may not always be comfortable or make us happy, sometimes things just creep up on us, which make us feel bad about ourselves or feel sorry for our circumstances; they happen for a reason, so that we can learn about ourselves and the world. It’s very easy to feel and act like a victim of our lives, however it takes courage and belief to thank each moment and experience of your life, and make peace with yourself. Whatever you go through, just know that you have the power to overcome it 🙂

As you know my focus is on working on all aspects of my life for 7 weeks in order to become a better me. Even though my aim was to focus more on exercising this week, it turned out I did exactly the opposite. And that’s fine, because I listened to my intuition which led me to spending more time meditating, allowing me to gain insights into much deeper aspects of my life that I needed to give attention to. I’ve understood that making peace with myself, forgiving myself and others, showing myself love and compassion in the same way I do with others in my life will not only allow me to move forward on my journey, but will also allow me to appreciate myself more.

With regards to food, this week was less about counting calories and more about how I felt about the food I ate and the attention I payed when eating. I find it very sad that so many people made food their foe, as this only contributes to their health not getting any better and them being out of balance. It’s as if we’d say… I’m not wearing this oversized jumper, it will make me gain 3 pounds! We instead wear something more appropriate for our shape or actually embrace the oversized jumper on cold days and when wanting to feel comfy on a day out and about. So why can’t we do the same with food? Why can’t we just make choices that are sensible and actually enjoy the food we eat rather than feel guilty for the extra nibble? I think it’s important to actually thank the food we eat and see it for what it is, fuel for our body and stop stressing over it. I’ve still eaten well and stuck to eating less calories than the recommended 2000/day, however I haven’t actively counted how many I’ve had. In these three weeks I’ve learnt to listen to my body more and I know if I’m full or whether I’m actually hungry, which inevitably led to my weight dropping.

Side note: I thought this week’s post will be shorter, but hey… it doesn’t look like it 🙂 Thanks for reading it and being on this journey with me.

During week 3 I focused on balancing my third chakra (solar plexus chakra), which is all about the perception of who we are, the centre of our self-esteem. Whenever we criticise ourselves, this chakra is out of balance, therefore we weaken our willpower. In order to strengthen this chakra and balance it, we need to show ourselves more love, acceptance, and acknowledgement of our own worth.

The affirmations I used this week are:

  • I am confident in all that I do
  • I stand up for myself
  • I respect myself at all times
  • I choose health, healing & happiness
  • I act with courage & strength
  • I deserve a wonderful life

I’m feeling so much more relaxed and happy with the insights I’m gaining into myself and the lessons I need to learn. As I follow my intuition more, I get to do things I would think twice about otherwise, such as painting. This week I went into an art supplies shop and got myself some basic items and of course had a go at it. It’s so much fun as I don’t have any expectations but just enjoy the process 🙂 We’ve also had a very productive photo shoot, and I can’t wait to share the photos on Instagram, as I’ve put together more autumnal looks.

Have a fabulous week and remember to be thankful for your life … just mentally go through some of the things you’re thankful for as you’re falling asleep and again, as you open your eyes in the morning. It’ll change your day from great to awesome! xxx

See you next Sunday on here 🙂
