AN ENCHANTING WEEKEND IN DIJON, FRANCE

Our journey started in the early hours, a 4.20am ferry from Dover to Calais. After disembarking from the boat we started our 5 and a half hours drive in France. It didn’t take long to get used to driving on the right side of the road. We decided to take the fastest route as we only had a weekend in Dijon.

Having arrived after the long journey, some refreshments and food were much awaited, we checked-in and popped downstairs to have a drink at the little bar across the road. We noticed that the apartment was in the historical part of the city and was alongside one of the busy market squares which was surrounded by little bars and restaurants.

Once we caught our breath, we went back upstairs to enjoy our apartment for the weekend. A mix of the modern and old, a blend of reds (burgundy) and natural beams and wine cask doors with a private terrace with steel sculpted railings depict the work of François Jouffroy, winner of the Prix de Rome in 1832, who was born in this house. The Chambertin Apartment at Dijon La Belle Adresse enchanted us with its blend of comfort, ambience and history, all in a fabulous location. The place was airy and had great views over the roofs of Dijon, church spires and the peak of Mont Afrique.

After freshening up and exploring our new home for the weekend we set off to explore the  nearby surroundings. We could hear the vibrant nightlife down in the square and frankly it would have been rude not to join in 🙂 We strolled around the square taking in the variety of cuisines on offer and found a little bar at the far end to have a drink, surprisingly it was the only bar with music, nothing modern, nothing to intrusive, just some classic sounds as a back drop to the chatter of the locals enjoying a Friday night. We then thought it would be a good idea to have dinner. We found a table in one of the restaurants; nicely placed under a large tree and ordered. Both the food and service were great. We were instantly at ease with our surroundings, feeling like we had been here many times before.
